Greg Cunefare: RAW Solo
This Sunday, February 15th, UltraCycling Magazine goes live with 62-year-old ultracyclist Greg Cunefare as he prepares to take on the legendary Race Across the West (RAW) solo in 2026.
RAW is the 860-mile western portion of the iconic Race Across America (RAAM). Starting in Oceanside, California, riders climb more than 50,000 feet across the Mojave Desert, Arizona heat, and into Durango, Colorado. It’s one of the most demanding ultracycling races in the world—testing strategy, resilience, sleep management, and raw determination.
Greg knows the course well:
• RAW 2021 – Solo
• RAW 2019 – 4-Person Team
• RAW 2018 – 4-Person Team
Now at 62, he’s returning to face the West alone once again. We’ll talk preparation, mindset, lessons learned from past races, how team dynamics differ from solo efforts, and what it takes to line up against the clock in one of endurance cycling’s toughest events.
