This epic 2000km brevet will trace a spectacular loop across New Zealand’s North Island, linking the harbors of Auckland with the capital city of Wellington and back again. Along the way, riders will traverse high desert plateaus, skirt ancient volcanoes, roll through the cinematic landscapes made famous by The Lord of the Rings, pass through welcoming small towns, and experience the rich traditions of Māori culture.
In this opening report, Joanna sets the stage for what promises to be one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most compelling ultra-distance challenges—where endurance cycling meets some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth. Stay tuned as she follows the riders, the stories, and the spirit of randonneuring across Middle-earth.
