Join us for a special live edition of UltraCycling Magazine as we welcome Meera Velankar, one of India’s most accomplished ultracyclists and a world-record-setting endurance athlete. Viewers on Facebook and YouTube can chat with Meera in real time.
Meera’s story is one of courage, reinvention, and extraordinary endurance. Trained as a scientist with a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, she conducted research in both the United States and South Africa before returning to India—where she chose to reshape her identity through physical endurance and community service.
Today, Meera Velankar holds several major ultracycling records, including pioneering unsupported tandem expeditions and setting WUCA and Guinness World Records. Her 2022 Agra–Delhi–Srinagar–Leh–Umling La ride—1835 km with 19,000 meters of climbing—stands as an iconic accomplishment, marking her as the first mixed-age tandem cyclist to reach Umling La, the world’s highest motorable pass.
In this live conversation, we’ll explore:
• Her transition from scientific research to elite endurance sport
• What drives her breakthroughs in ultradistance cycling
• The stories behind her tandem records and high-altitude expeditions
• Her mission to inspire reinvention, resilience, and community empowerment
